What it does

Quick entry

Tap to add an expense, type the amount, pick a category chip, and optionally set the date, how you paid and a note. Tap any entry to edit or remove it. Entries are saved instantly, with or without a connection.

Month view and history

See what you have spent this month, the split by category, your daily pace and progress against a monthly budget. History shows month-by-month and yearly totals and the last twelve months by category.

Categories with sub-categories

Rename, recolour, hide or delete categories, and nest them (Transport, then Fuel). Choose how the category card looks: ranked bars, a donut, a strip, tiles, blocks or a compact list.

Accounts of every kind

Track spending accounts such as Household and Personal, money you hold (bank, savings, cash, cards, wallets, prepaid cards), money you owe (credit cards, loans, mortgages, buy-now-pay-later) and money put away (investments, gold, pension). Each shows the right figure for its kind, and the accounts page adds up your net position.

Planned payments

Set recurring entries, one-off planned payments and repayments for cards and loans. The app asks first or adds them automatically, shows what is coming up on the home screen and can remind you.

Reports and export

Statistics and reports for the period you choose, and export to CSV or a spreadsheet, for one month or everything.

Bring your data from other apps

Import from SmartBudget, Wallet by BudgetBakers, or an earlier Expense Tracker backup. The app shows what it found before anything is written, and you can undo an import.

Password-protected backups

Back up to one spreadsheet file protected with a password you choose, to your phone or to any storage app you pick, such as Google Drive. Set up daily or weekly automatic backups to a folder. Restore on a new phone from the same file.

Two ways to keep your data

On this phone is the default: no account and no server. Or connect to your own server if you want the same data on several devices and a web page. Tabpoint does not run a server for you.

Optional PINs and devices

If you run your own server, you can switch on access control so each person has their own PIN and each phone is enrolled with a one-time key.

Permissions and why

PermissionWhy Expense Tracker needs it
NotificationsPOST_NOTIFICATIONSReminders for planned payments and repayments.
Internet and network stateINTERNET ACCESS_NETWORK_STATEOnly used in server mode, to reach the server you entered and to know when it is reachable. In phone-only mode nothing is sent over the internet.

Expense Tracker asks for no access to your contacts, SMS, location, camera or microphone.

Your data

Phone-only mode

Everything is kept in the app’s private storage on your phone. The app runs its own small server on the phone itself, reachable only by the app, so no other app or device can use it.

Server mode

Your entries are sent to the server address you type in, which is a server you control. Tabpoint cannot see it.

Backups

The backup file is locked with your password and goes where you save it. The app does not talk to Google Drive or any other cloud service itself. Read the full privacy policy for Expense Tracker.
